“Are you serious?” — Emily said when Aaron proposed to her on a snowy day just before sunset while on holiday in Rothenburg ob der Tauber (a well preserved medieval town in Germany). She wanted to take photos of the sights. After she snapped a photo of a bird house, she turned around and there was Aaron, on one knee with a ring. She thought it was perfect!
They first met in June 2013 at a mutual friend’s dress up party. Aaron was in band playing at a tavern. The bass player (who was Emily’s guitar teacher in high school) introduced them to each other.
He thought she was super cute but was a little intimidated by her. She seem to be a crazy party girl who was walking around with a tray of tequila! Emily had a small idea of who he was before meeting him. So her first impression was that he was well written, serious and very witty. However, her first face-to-face impression was that he was a little dismissive and rude…but he explained a few months later he in his ‘Band Mode’. She believed he looked like a handsome, tall version of Tom Hanks or French Stewart.
I asked what they think are the personality traits of the other. Here’s what they got to say:
Aaron- She has a beautiful heart, and is very caring. She’s creative. Not just in an artistic sense, but she also has a great way of thinking outside of the box (when buying gifts for people for instance. She has great ideas that I would never come up with). Finally, Emily is hard working. Whether it’s her job, study or wedding planning, she always gives her all, and the results of the work she puts in speak for themselves.
Emily- He is extremely patience and supportive. He reassures me when I’m worried my essays make no sense, and calms me down when I panic during a driving lesson. He will listen to me rant about nonsense without complaint, and he knows when its best to offer advice. Aaron is one of the smartest men I know. He is very talented and makes everything look so effortless (eg playing guitar, writing and fixing the TV). Most of all, Aaron holds his family and his beliefs in very high importance. He is very involved with his Church and loves to spend a lot of time with his family.
Aaron had no doubt even early in their relationship that he would one day do this. As for Emily, it hit her one day that he is “the one” because she never complained about Aaron to her mother!
So in this beautiful day at Belgenny Farm, I am so honoured and privilege to witness the union of this lovely couple. Congratulations Aaron and Emily!
