It is a refreshing change to shoot a different type of event (as opposed to weddings). Shooting a wedding is a demanding task both physically and mentally. By the time at the reception, while everybody is still be full of energy and having a wonderful time, I would be at the last gasp of my stamina.
This is why I totally enjoyed covering Lovelle Sagun’s 18th birthday. Although I still have to work hard, it is nothing like the pressure-cooker of a wedding. Lovelle’s family and friends are all wonderful. They made us feel so welcome at the party. Special mention for the staff at the venue (Spoons Function Centre at Blacktown). They really gave us extra attention and had been very attentive to our needs. Kudos to the venue supervisor whose name escapes me.
I first met Lovelle and her family at a christening. That was the time when we first discussed the possibility of coverage for this birthday celebration. I know that the birthday girl is beautiful. But I was really surprised when she transformed into this stunning lady at the celebration. She was literally, the Star of the Show!

With her immediate family
The 18 roses ceremony. There are 18 persons (family or friends) who each handed a rose and danced with the debutante.
There’s also the 18 candle ceremony. There are 18 persons who lights one birthday candle and says a few words to the birthday girl. This photo was her friend giving a speech. Lovelle was really touched by her words and was in tears while listening.
Lovelle blows the candles and toasts everybody
A dance presentation from Lovelle and her friends
A song number from Lovelle’s cousin
And of course, the awaited father and daughter dance.
Lovelle’s wacky and fun loving guests.
A final portrait of our beautiful debutante.
